BEACH NOURISHMENTS is the process of dumping o pumping sand from elsewhere onto an eroding shoreline to create a new beach or to widen the existing beach. Beach Nourishments is an adaption technology primarily used in response to shoreline erosion,although flood reduction benefits may also occur.It is a soft engineering approach to coastal protection which involves the artificial addition of sediment of suitable quality to beach area that has a sediment deficit.Nourishments can also be referred to as beach recharge,beach fill, replenishment, re-nourishment and beach feeding.

BREAKWATERS are structure constructed on coasts as part of coastal defense or to protect an anchorage from the effect of both weather and longshore drift.Breakwaters reduce coastal erosion or provide safe harborages.An anchorage is only safe if ship anchorages there are protected from the force of high winds and powerful waves by some large underwater barrier which they can shelter behind.
